How to step your digital marketing game up for 2023

We just said goodbye to 2022 and welcomed in a new year(2023). We will see the celebrations and hear about new year resolutions. In the midst of this partying and planning, I would like to reflect on our digital journey(last year and the new upcoming year).


Due to the pandemic and resulting shift to many businesses, schools and other entities going online(digital) it is imperative that we have our digital plans in place so we not only survive, but thrive during the time of a great shift.

In the following paragraphs, we will explore some of the ways you can step your digital game up and make 2023 a great year for your digital endeavors.


Social media/website audit

When was the last time you ran an audit of your social media accounts or website? If the answer is never or not in a long time then start the new year off right by doing a full audit of your website and social media profiles.

You can use Google analytics to get insights of your website like demographics, traffic sources, key words, daily, weekly and monthly. On the social media side look to the insights option to get all the key facts about your social media page. Based on the data you obtain you can adjust your strategy accordingly.

Some of the things you want to look into is your engagement, call to action completions and sales(if you are selling a product/service).


Buyer persona

Who is your target audience? What is the behavior of your customers? What are their trigger points? What makes them buy? What makes them not buy?

These are questions that a good buyer persona can help you answer. If you are not familiar with a buyer persona then here goes: a buyer persona is a fictional profile of your ideal customer, prospective buyer or lead.

A buyer persona will help you by being clear about who you are going after with your digital marketing efforts. If your buyer persona is more geared towards a youthful audience then you know to gear your efforts towards a social media where younger audiences congregate like snap chat or TikTok.


Email marketing

Email marketing is still a thing. With the sometimes unpredictable nature of social media algorithms, you need a direct channel to communicate with your current customers and prospects. This is where your email list comes into play.


For example, if you have a Facebook business page with thousands of followers, however Facebook’s algorithm only shows your content to 6% of your followers, then you are missing a whole lot of connections.

Remedy this by building an active email list. To get subscribers, come up with a lead magnet product or offer. A lead magnet is simply what you offer for free in exchange for their email list sign up. Once you have your email list running, you can then directly communicate with your audience without a middleman. Look at Mailchimp for email marketing solutions.


Content marketing

Content is king! This is said for a reason. It usually doesn’t cost anything to create content. Your ability to produce content is only limited by lack of imagination. Some types of content you can produce are ebooks, reports, articles(blog posts), videos, memes, podcast episodes, courses, infographics, traditional books, etc.

If you combine this with the tip before regarding email marketing then you can have a steady supply of valuable offerings for your growing email list. This will keep people signing up and checking their emails for your latest content.
